Senior Experience

2012 Senior Experience Registration Form

In January, we will be beginning a new program called Senior Experience. We will meet on Sunday nights during the regular CrossRoads time.  This program is designed to help prepare seniors for life after youth group.

Approximately 40-50% of youth group seniors significantly struggle with their faith and with finding a church after graduation. The curriculum we will be using is for students like this one who described the overall challenge of transitioning from high school to college:

“Transitioning out of high school into college is like you’re leaving on a giant cruise ship.  You’re heading out of this harbor and everyone’s waving you off.  Let’s say this ship is your faith.  As soon as you start sailing out to this new port called college, you realize you’re in a dingy and you don’t have this huge thing, and you’re completely not prepared, and your boat is sinking!  Unless there’s someone with a life raft who’s ready to say, ‘We’ve got you.  Come right here.  This is where you can be, and this is where you can grow,’ you’re done.” (Powell and Griffin, Sticky Faith: Senior Curriculum, p. 1)

We would like to work alongside you in preparing your student for both spiritual needs and practical needs they will require for college.  We will cover faith issues and integration, identity, relationships, and daily life management.  We plan to have guest speakers join our discussions from our church community, recent graduates, and parents.

At the end of this program, we hope your student has a better sense of his or her own
spiritual maturity and the need to nurture that concept as a process.  We cannot predict how that transition will happen for every student, but it is our job to give that student as many tools as possible to keep in their toolbox as they start their new adventure.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact one of us: Chris Moss cmoss@duewest.org or Heather Hale lynnhm@gmail.com.  We would be happy to show you the curriculum and talk with you about how we see this new program working.

Registration will last until December 11th.  An information meeting for both parents and students will be held Sunday, December 4th at 12:30 p.m. in the South Campus sanctuary.  Lunch will be provided.
